Johann's family name was Köter his father a was a Dragoon in the army, though his mother had allowed Johann Köster to be used for Johann. All the children of Johann are registered as Köther.
It seems it was only Johann, the son, was the only one to use the name Köster, however when Johann married for the second time to Margrete Brau (January 3, 1814) it was more than probable the pastor discovered the true spelling and Köter and this was used once again.
