Local heritage book of Aviston, IL, USA2014 is the 150 year celebration of Aviston,
in Clinton County, Illinois, Diocese of Belleville At some point I asked myself what ever became of the brothers and sisters of my ancestors, especially those from the Emsland?
Most remained in the parish of their birth or moved to a neighboring parish. In some of their baptismal records it was noted: Emigrated to North America. But what became of these emigrants?
Relatively early I had heard from my now long deceased grandmother, whose maiden name was Kues, that there were emigrants in her family.
In subsequent searches in the internet, I discovered that Aviston, Illinois was their destination where to this day Kues family descendants still live.
In reading the family names in Aviston, I discovered that many of the names were well known to me. I suspect that even more Emsland families have settled in the surrounding towns. Thus, this should not only be an attempt to research the evidence of "my" emigrants. My goal is that with the help of the visitors of this page it will be possible to learn more about the origins of many other emigrants.
Thus, I hope for your assistance.
Births (1865-1911) written in column form
Marriages (1865-1879) written in column form, through 1931 as church book text
Deaths ( 1865-1911) written in column form, though 1931 as church book text
The information recorded before 1865 is presumably in the older, neighboring parishes, i.e. Germantown church books which start in 1839.
Whether the available transcriptions are error free, I can unfortunately not verify. Thus, the family names in the church books for example could be written with ä, ö, ü and ß.
