Theoretically family research in the area of the former Rosengarten parish is in a fortunate position in so far as the church registers from 1700 onwards have been almost completely preserved.  When civil registration was introduced in East Prussia from about October 1874, the area of the Rosengarten parish was subdivided into the registry precincts of Rosengarten, Steinort and Doben. Some of the civil registers (for example the Rosengarten births 1874-1902) have been lost after 1944. However, the gaps can be filled from the church registers which had been continued to almost the end of 1944.

During the period 1770-1944 alphabetic indices of all the church registers had been generated.  In addition, for the years 1750-1840, there exist birth indices for individual villages and dwelling places.
As the films of the church registers contain a number of illegible segments, the indices can become helpful in reconstructing the contents of the damaged register pages.

In the year 1938 the original Rosengarten church registers had been filmed twice, and with different equipment.

All registers (including the civil registers kept at the Berlin State Archives) have been digitised by Archion [9] and Ancestry [10] and can be downloaded in so far as they are not subject to statutory blocking periods.

The original capture of the Rosengarten registers into Excel-tables by Heinrich Grinda dates back to the years 2007-2012.  He has also compiled the core of these introductory remarks.  Some of the films blocked in Germany had to be viewed outside the country.  The local heritage book covering the area of the former Rosengarten parish is mainly based on these Excel-tables.

In addition to the data from the official church and civil registers, the personal information in the "Angerburger Kreisblatt" [12] from 1855 to 1907 (digitization and recording Winfried Lyszio) and the relevant telephone books from 1914 [13] and 1942 [14] has been captured and incorporated into this heritage book. The reponsibility for all errors, omissions, inaccuracies etc, however, rests exclusively with the editor.
